Notice of the 7th Annual Convention

WHEN: October 2 - 3,2014
WHERE: 4 Points Sheraton Edmundston

June 24th, 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The Executive of CUPE Local 4848 would like to welcome you to the 7th Annual Convention for the Paramedics / Dispatchers Union. This year, the Convention will be held at the 4 Points Sheraton, 100 Rue Rice, Edmundston, on October 2nd and 3rd , 2014. For room reservations, please phone 1-506-739-7321 or toll free 1-800-576-4656.

It is important that members get the opportunity to come together every year to discuss the roles and functions of your union. That gives the membership a chance to meet other paramedics / dispatchers from different parts of the province to become acquainted with each other in a social setting rather than a working environment. Your elected station VP is your delegate and acts as your voice on station issues and the agenda for the local.

Each station will be allowed to send the Station VP as a delegate and all the members of Local 4848 are welcome to attend the convention as guests.

The agenda and the registration form will follow.

Any changes to Local 4848 By-laws have to be submitted by July 15th, 2014 to our vice-president Judy Astle at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Executive is looking forward to seeing you.

In solidarity,

Trent Piercy
President CUPE Local 4848

Job Analysis Questionnaire

The Executive of CUPE 4848 would like to remind members to complete the JAQ as soon as possible. The section to be filled out is the paramedic, employee side. At this time we do not need the manager’s comments as this section will be filled out by Senior Management once we have compiled the final document from the JAQs submitted, copy of which can be downloaded from our webpage at Please take the time, as a group in your station or individually, to complete this very important job analysis. Thanks to the 7 individuals/stations that have already done this.

The deadline for submission has been extended to June 11, 2014 due to the confusion regarding manager's comments.

WorkSafe NB Decision re: Roadside Posting – December 2013

The local would like to inform all CUPE 4848 members of the decision of the Workplace Health and Safety Appeal concerning Roadside Posting. The WHSCC Chief Compliance Officer had taken into consideration the Right to Refuse of Roadside Posts throughout the province, and subsequent orders by its Compliance Officer in Moncton, with information provided during a meeting where the provincial concerns of Roadside posting were raised with Local 4848. An appeal of a compliance officer’s order on the safety of the Evergreen and Elmwood Roadside posts was held on November 18th in Moncton. The appeal considered all of the provincial concerns on roadside posts and the outcome of the appeal would apply to all employees of ANB in all regions. The WHSCC has concluded that roadside posts and ANB policy are safe within the Workplace Health and Safety Act and regulations. The report offered conclusions and recommendations to be made for all employees to view. The reports are attached and those who filed a right to refuse can make a final appeal of the order to the Appeals Tribunal.
