Paramedic Lay-Offs

To: Members of CUPE Local 4848

Re: Paramedic Lay-Offs

Dear Members,

I have the displeasure of informing our members of Lay-offs to our Paramedics. CUPE Local 4848 was informed early on October 23, 2013 that the New Brunswick Department of Health and NB EMS are giving the union a 30 day notice of intent to lay-off Paramedics.

Survey Results - Schedule Survey

During Ambulance New Brunswick’s tour of the Province in 2012, a list was compiled of issues the Employees would like to see addressed. Schedule change for Paramedics to a 4 on 5 off was one of those issues. The subject of Paramedic schedules was discussed at the Labour Management Meetings held in the Fall 2012, and information was released through the station VP’s of the Local. At the time the executive did not have clear support of a change to a 4 on 5 off rotation as a need to correct increasing scheduled Part Time hours to meet benefits. Since then, we have been tasked during Regional Membership Meetings to get a clear picture of the issue on 4 on 4 off versus 4 on 5 off rotations. The Executive of CUPE Local 4848 is looking for all members to complete the survey to help determine if a need for reopening of the debate is needed. The proposed 9-week schedule along with our current 24 week-schedule is posted on the website for comparison. Notes on the ANB proposed 4 on 5 off and the current 4 on 4 off will be attached.
